Approach
Dr Smith has trained in cognitive behavioural therapy and interactive drawing therapy. She sees therapy as a collaborative process which is reliant on building a safe trusting relationship that allows the client and therapist to work together on the problems the client is facing.
Since 2009 Dr Smith has also been offering Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). CAT is a therapy that looks at the way a person thinks, feels and acts; and explores the events and relationships that underlie this.
Typically CAT is time limited (between 4 to 24 sessions) and is tailored to an individual’s needs. CAT stresses the importance of the therapeutic relationship, the purpose of which is to help the client make sense of their situation and find ways of making changes for the better (see http://www.acat.me.uk/).
